SOUND ANALSYSIS
Non- Diegetic=bold
-----= change of scene
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

APOCALYPSE NOW- First 7 minutes.

Helicopter blades
Music- The Doors  "This is the end" << reflective of the theme of the movie
Song from the sixties>> gives a hint to the audience as to when the film is set.
A song that glorifies dying and makes it sound quite beautiful> Main character is a soldier.
Fan spinning
Helicopter blades
Voiceover: "Saigon, shit, I'm still only in Saigon." Lets the audience know where the film actually is. Introduces aspects of the main character.

Birds chirping
crickets and insects
Underlying bass notes
Music fading in
Gongs
Breaking of a pitcher

A lot of the sounds in this extract are quite hard to place: the viewer doesn't know if they're hearing the fan spinning or hearing helicopter blades whilst looking at a fan. The main character seems to be in a confused state so this choice in sound is probably to reflect that.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JAWS- First 5 minutes

Submarine sounds
Music- Iconic Jaws cello. Using only 2 notes to create suspense. Repetitive. Dark.

------
Fire crackling
Conversation
Harmonica
Guitar
Laughing
The sea
Conversation between 2 characters "I'm not drunk."
Heavy breathing
Splashing
Buoy bell

Music- calm but when teamed with the underneath shot of the girl swimming, becomes sinister
Evolves into the same 2 notes cello from before.
Long, high strings denote danger. Very menacing.
Screaming
Splashing
Gargling
-----
Waves washing against the shore
Buoy bell
The music has stopped and the scene is a massive juxtaposition to what was on screen just seconds before.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MAX PAYNE- first 2 minutes

Whistling wind
Voiceover- "I don't believe in heaven"
Water splashing
Man gasping
